Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

Request information on cryogenic treatment.

Please let’s keep this a forum for open discussion and free expression of opinions, however informed, on all matters. I won't tolerate being shouted-down for expressing my opinion on the validity of any concept.

Just as an aside, be cautious of attempts to manipulate Vinyl Asylum for commercial ends. There is always the possibility of loaded questions being posed and/or staged answers being aggressively advanced to generate "Internet Buzz" for a costly product or process.

The claim has been made that there are audible benefits from cryogenically freezing certain electronic/mechanical components. Perhaps there's a significant technical advance that can be applied to phonograpghy with remarkable results. A brief, rational explanation of this process is requested.

I am very interested in tonearms currently. My scientific and engineering experience suggest that submitting a complex mechanical assembly like a tonearm to extreme thermal cycling is would very likely damage it and would offer no lasting benefits of any sort. Similar considerations apply to cartridges. It would be possible to totally disassemble a tonearm, including all adhesively- or mechanically fastened joints, freeze the components, and then reassemble it.

Significant expenditures of time and money are certainly involved. What benefits might be expected? Let’s hear it!
