beavis,
Find out the serial number and go to www.pfmedia.demon.co.uk/flatearth/
to download a FAQ file on LP12's that tells of updates for the Linn.
If this unit is fairly current and the condition good, then the price is a good one.
The Sondek is a most satisfactory machine and still the benchmark that all other high end decks are asssessed by.In the area of pitch, rhythm, pace and tunefullness, there are few equals(some would say none). With the Lingo, Naim Armegeddon or Pink Triangle Pink Linnk power supply upgrades, the LP12 is still a machine to conjure with.Parts should be available long after everything else in vinyl playback has crumbled into dust. The later Cirkus bearing upgrade is not necessary(I like it but some will argue that the previous bearing is more musical),nor is the Trampolin base(for siting on heavy furniture). The Ittok LVIIisn't the last word in tonearms but is a very fine match and more than up to using high grade MC cartridges.
I'd take an older, uprated Sondek over ANY current VPI or Basis any day. The Oracle Delphi IV or V is another matter.
Ken
