I used to own the -7's predecessor (SP-5) and recall it being okay but maybe not worth $350 for the entire preamp! A real problem with the transistorized ARC stuff is the use of "Analog Modules" which is a nice way of saying that the guts are potted in epoxy and can't be serviced except by replacing the module outright, assuming they're still available.There's a Linn LP-12 FAQ floating around on the internet: It'll give you the details of what's been changed over the years (just about everything). Properly set up, even an old LP-12 should be lots of fun. Jimmy Hughes wrote a good article on the sound of the old vs new in HiFi+ #17 (if you're really lucky, maybe you can still find it on the newstands.
