I'm playing with an Elac Miracord 50H and a Pickering V15 tracking at 3 grams w/ NOS stylus. Seems like I'm getting a lot of inner groove distortion. I'm wondering if this is a problem with the 50H in general because the tonearm is so short...increased tracking error at the end?
Next question...what would one have to do to turn one of these into a manual turntable? Is this a practical, doable operation? Obviously the push button switches would need to stay intact. Mounting would have to be on a solid plinth, sans springs, with a long tonearm. I thought about removing the stock tonearm, weighing it, and adding a similar weight wooden disc in place of the tonearm to trick the machine into thinking it's still there. Has anyone ever replaced the 50H tonearm and gutted one of these machines? I've seen this done to a Garrard Lab 80, for example...
