Mine is silent. When the lever is moved to 45rpm, the idler wheel is raised to be in contact with a part of the brass pulley that is larger in diameter. Pull the platter off and run it in 33 rpm and then in 45rpm, if there is a noise issue, you should be able to see where it is coming from. Maybe a small defect in the pulley, idler wheel or platter? Oil the small idler wheel bearings, not much else can go wrong with these. Maybe the pulley moved a bit and is not centered when the idler wheel is running at 45rpm. Motor speed is the same at all speeds, the different diameters of the pulley are what change the speed. If it doesn't make noise at 33 rpm, then it's probably not the motor. Also look at the position of the eddy brake, it's what adjusts speed. If it is out of alignment, it might be rubbing. But if 33rpm is quiet, then 45rpm shouldn't make noise either. I use a Woodsong eddybrake in my 301, the old one was a bit warped.Thomas
