I have the M55E in a cherry wood headshell on a medium mass Denon tonearm. Could the weight of the headshell be causing problems with the N44G stylus and causing it to not want to track at 1.5 grams? I'm guessing not. Also, when I lower the stylus onto the record, it doesn't look like it's being mashed down inappropriately at 2.7 grams. What the thing looks like is basically identical to the M44-7 but with a lower output and black housing. I'm willing to bet they're the same suspension, stylus, and cantilever. Shure is claiming low tracking force because they want to sell units and they probably deem the stylus to track acceptably well at 1.5 grams. That's a guess.
