RE: Low Level Hum

Well, this is what I have found so far. Using John Elison's suggested experiment: with the belt disconnected, stylus on the stationary record. Turntable motor on: hums, motor off: no hum. Same result with VPI PLC in or out of the loop. I have also played with re-routing cables and bypassing the Chang, no effect.

Now, this is what I have observed. Recently I installed a Target Wall Shelf on the same wall as the speakers are located. If you look at my system, I have (the clue) speakers that require very close, rear wall placement to use the wall for bass reinforcement. I moved the speakers out into the room and the hum was greatly reduced. Making matters worse, when the speakers are properly positioned, the hum is the loudest at the listening position! Because the room is so small (doubles as my office), (the clue) speakers have been great until now.
BTW: Closing the dust cover, reduces the hum somewhat.

I think I have another spare VPI Jr. motor somewhere and my cartridge is getting a bit old too. There no other choices for system placement, so I might just have to settle for hum reduction and not elimination.

Thanks to all that offered help, I appreciate it and keep those ideas coming in ...
