I don't have anything against direct drives as a turntable drive system, in fact I have owned several that were quite nice. The Technics SP-10 and SP-15 among others are excellent. The only concern is reliability. I have had more than a few during the last few years that eventually had speed issues and were just too expensive to repair. If I were to buy another direct drive, I would probably buy a Technics SL1200. Simply because of reliability and parts are still available and they are upgradeable.
