RE: Vintage LP12

Actually vintage Linn will keep it's value if bought reasonably cheap i.e $500 -$1000. Check the E-bay prices . It can't be said of any modern tables which depreciate head down a day after a purchase and the shinny $10k custom small shop clunkers you can put out on the curb . Nobody wants them half free , including German tankers. Even in basic configuration with Ittok that midbass table will sound subjectively more musical than Rega P9 , Acoustic Solid/signature (up to $10K )most DD's and those idler fart machines providing the cartridge will be of comparable quality.
It's the same story like with other audio classics . It sold in millions not only because Ivor's big mouth but because it worked and continue to work for many with satisfactory quality ("you can fool some people sometimes but you can't fool all the people all the times" )If the bearing is OK leave it as is or try suitable isolation transformer a la NAIM Armageddon. You won't be able to make better DIY table out of those parts. Especially if you really have no exposure regarding higher end tables. How many times a year do you play 45's really ?
Also , phono pre and cartridge have a major effect on sound if the table is of reasonable quality. I hope you're fortunate enough to see yourself spending $$$$ on each of those items..
