It's simply that I find pretty much every modern cartridge I've ever heard to be tilted up in the high frequencies and upper midrange. The only things I've been able to stand listening to are certain vintage models. The Shure M97xe is reasonably smooth, but also sounds like a joke. Sumiko Pearl is not bad on certain arms and tables. Not sure where else to go. Tried many, many things. Currently running an old blue body Pickering V15 that I'm reasonably happy with. There is a subtle hardness/stiffness to the sound that I'm not thrilled with, though.
