Vinyl Asylum Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ. |

OK, I posted pics on the DIY topic (to live among crystals, low frequency EMI and cryogenic tweaks).
I knew I wasn't enjoying LP playback as much as I should, not that I didn't have good experiences, but certainly not every LP I had lit my fire on any consistent basis.
Fremer reviewed the original Black Cube in 1995 and I bought one. As it accommodates MC cartridges, I've paired it with a Benz Ace L on an original Planar 3, about 1995 vintage as well -- with only band-aid tweaks, literally, applied.
Hook up the new power supply and immediately the musical experience is intense, well, after about a 20 minute warm-up certainly for phono stage and tube pre-amp.
Jazz check
Classical check
Popular check (to my great surprise as well, though popular back in 1970s, of course.)
Difficulty: Moderate as one is always dealing with high voltage for the mains. Good chassis work still eludes me, but my suspicion is that 'wood' is easier to work with than metal in most cases and ALWAYS sounds better than metal.
Overall: Not a small change by any means but a game changer actually. The rhythm and purity are just not there with a substandard power supply.
