I own both a 301 and a 401, I can't really tell a huge difference between the 2. Both are extremely quiet and speed is rock solid. The 401 was upgraded with a custom Martin Bastin bearing and the 301 has an Exact bronze bearing, (I decided upon suggestion from an asylum member to avoid the Analogue Tube Audio Kokomo bearing). Both have Origin Live tonearms with Ortofon cartridges. Both are in fairly heavy baltic birch ply plinths. You would be hard pressed to find any major sonic differences. I can't. The TD124 I own has a slight amount of noise, mostly due to how it is installed in the baltic birch plinth, I need to work on it, maybe get rid of the mushrooms and have it flat against the plinth. But you really have to try and hear the faint hum that comes from the motor?, once the music is playing it's a non issue.
