RE: Rega RP3

To answer your question . Yes , RP3 plinth is exactly the same particle board wrapped in vinyl like the one you had 30 years ago. The addition of thin plastic "braces" on its top and bottom is IMHO purely cosmetic in RP3 , just to accent it connection to upper models. Motor is mounted in the same double tape method which although cheap is pretty effective so I wouldn't worry. Pulley is now made of aluminum alloy instead of plastic. Simple 24V motor controller supposedly hand tuned circuit keep the speed stability and contribute to perceived improved sound of Rp3 compared to older model. In my opinion it looses little bloom and warmth of older version and becomes more articulate detailed. Te 303 arm with 3 point mounting method looks cheaper made , more plastic less stainless steel, brass but I read reports it's more musical than regular 300B. Wire appears to be the the same.I heard that table many times and it's pretty effective music player in entry mid level ,although in my opinion Rega does a lot to ruin it's reputation as a manufacturer of cheap musical tables lately . good luck
