I recently purchased a Nagaoka MP-50 cartridge, stylus looked okay under magnification but when playing a LP, I would get loud groove noise. I assumed the stylus was not in good condition. I replaced it with another stylus from a Nagaoka MP-30, no groove noise. After having the stylus replaced on the MP-50, it still had some groove noise. Sent it back to the retipper and he adjusted the suspension, it's better, but I still have groove noise. When watching it play an LP, it sort of bounces around from side to side, probably the suspension is still not correct. The MP-30 stylus has zero groove noise and no "dancing" around in the groove.
Not sure if your cartridge has a similar problem, you might try another cartridge and see if there is a change in groove noise.
