RE: I suspect the Sondek is their cash cow...

I can relate to that somehow. I bought P9 and heavy German mass table and assembled decent LP12 with newer corner braced plinth and Ittok /Benz MC3 cart retipped by VDH years ago (boron cantilever and line contact styli) Out of the 3 (not counting the TD124 clunker ) Linn has most relaxed flowing sound . Too bad It will be the first one to sell only because on others I can only loose money and one can still find cheap Linn occasionally from happy brainwashed owners of Project , Rega , Musichall , technics tables
which I'm promptly going to do ;). I'm afraid that SS sound you heard in Peters room is going to be the sound of your cart once back from retip. Find and alternative even slightly risky or send it to VDH and pray :)
I highly respect Peters work or service and his professional achievements etc, etc but his carts (as well as his Axpona room ) are very far from sound esthetics I happen to follow. Rgrds, W
