RE: Some questions about properly mounting Empire 98 tonearm...fixed headshell version:

Thanks, but I'm not looking for tonearm advice. "Soft-sounding and ill-defined" is exactly what I'm looking for. My question is about the mounting distance of the Empire arm. That's really all I need to know. I am deliberately choosing a high-mass, overly warm sounding clunky arm. I've tried my other Lenco L75 is custom bases, tried tweaks, and modern 'audiophile arms' such as a couple by Linn and I find what this mostly does is kill the sound, ruin anything friendly about the table, and turn it into a bright, shrieking mess. On the other hand, using the stock base, a warm, vintage cartridge, and a heavy, broadcast tonearm and the magic is all there. When I installed my Rek-O-Kut S-120 arm on my L75 and used the standard, factory, Lenco plinth was when the unit first started to sound truly musical. I figure the Empire arm is probably a bit better than the Rek-O-Kut....maybe. It's an experiment, but I definitely want a heavy arm.
