Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

I absolutely agree with everything you've said BUT...

I had a Denon DL-110 and it was screaming bright. The idea of paying for a re-tip doesn't bother me at all. But this DL-110 I had, a used piece, was awful; shrill and harsh. It did track well, though. I'll give it that. I had a DL-103 also that I remember retiring because it was a little bright(could have been my step-up transformer wasn't good) and I'm not sure it tracked all that well. I have very sensitive ears and I find most cartridges to be extremely bright, btw. The original Stanton 500 is not. Neither is the Shure M3D. But those cartridges track with the grace of a butter knife.
