In Reply to: Stanton 681EEE tracking problems. New stylus? Replace with Grado? Sumiko? Shelter? Need help..thanks! posted by Mr Blue Sky on June 17, 2012 at 13:12:34:
I've tried thus far today a Grado Blue, a Shure M91ED w/original Shure stylus, a Pickering XSP/4004 w/Stanton D81 stylus, a Stanton 680EE w/Stanton 6800EII stylus, a Stanton 681EEE w/ EEE Stylus, and an Ortofon OM20, listening to immaculate Chet Baker "Chet" reissue lp. All of these carts fall apart during the trumpet peaks throughout the record except the Ortofon OM20. Experiments with tracking force, anit-skate, and alignment have failed to improve the performance of any of these. The Ortofon, on the other hand, is tracking the record more-or-less completely clean and free of mistracking. I wonder what's going on here....
