Re: Marantz 2230 or Sansui 800?

Dave,

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. An old saying, but wise. Take the 2230 and forget the Sansui. The 2230 is known quantity, and a very nice unit. The Sansui is not working, so it's really a crap game. And after you get it working, it probably won't be as nice a piece as the 2230.

Unless you're really into bargains or gambling, go with the 2230.

An anecdote here: I had a good friend who could not resist a bargain. He was also cheap. He debated for several years about computers for his law office. Tehy would have saved him a lot of $$, made the secretary's lives so much easier, kept better records, etc. But he kept waffling. Finally, when I upgraded my IBM PC to an AT motherboard, I gave him my old keyboard and the motherboard out of my PC. What a deal, he had his bargain. So he went to a guy who built computers in his basement with the pieces I gave him. Several thousand dollars later he wound up with two cobbled together 12 MHz AT's. If he had simply bought the right thing initially, he would have been money and time ahead. He did a similar thing with bicycles to get a decent bike for his daughter, and ended up with a garage full of bicycle parts. Get the 2230.

Jerry
