Re: The Mythical McIntosh MC-3500

Yes the Dead used the 3500s and the later by a year or two MC2300. I saw a picture of one of the Dead's amps at a S. Ca. dealer where a lizard had climbed in through the fan opening and when the amp was turned on the lizard tried to get out and was fried, becoming lizard skeleton stuck to tube plate caps. Another warranty repair. I personally knew Gordon Gow and he told me he went in the plant over a Christmas shutdown and build up some MC2300s for the Dead's New Year show. Trust me rock bands and night clubs were/are factory approved customers.
Linda Ronstadt used the MC3500s as mic pre amps and would only record through these. They were abandoned at the Lucas ranch and ended up at Audio Classics.
The MC3500 uses 8 outputs per channel and they can be removed two at a time and the amp will run fine but the power will drop.
