The Dinah Shore Show on NBC was color #1

The Dinah Shore Show was the first weekly prime time full color
production from NBC in Burbank. The show was live. A good friend of
mine with a lot of daring got his mom to list him as a kid actor.
Lo and behold he gets a job as one of the 'kids' in a TV commercial
family that gets a new Chevrolet wagon. Chevy was the sponsor.
'See the USA in your Chevrolet', begins the slogan song. The Dinah
Shore Show was RCA's big broadcast showcase to stimulate attention
and buyers for its new tri-color tube 10" floor sitting set - just
a mere $1000. The Rose Parade was the premier color NBC broadcast on
New Year's Day 1954. TV's were set up in public venues with lights
turned low for maximum effect. 'Come on down and see for yourself.'
The color cameras were all vacuum tube, huge in size, and put out
heat like crazy. Setting up a color camera for broadcast could take
more than an hour. What a time.
