Re: Mcintosh Questions

In response to your questions ...I absolutly love the sound...I come from the Marantz solid state stuff from the early 70's and that was good stuff too.IMO the mac stuff blows it away. Now I'm aware that there are those who dont like the sound or call the bass anemic or weak and the mid's muddy.I find none of this to be true.In fact I find it to be just the opposite.Bass is infinately adjustable and trebel is crisp and sweet without having to crank the knobs way up.The loudness position is not over bearing as are a lot of units in this vintage and the presence selector gives it a very warm sound esp. when using the phono stage.I cant really find any reason to dislike these earlier mac units. They are visualy pleasing as well beautiful lighted glass fronts and all.And mac stuff is becoming more and more valuable as time goes by.It is highly prized by the Mac nuts(as I am one also) and there is always interest in the stuff which is extremely popular.Todays stereo engineers try to re invent the wheel over and over, coming up with new ways to resell older recorded medium..again IMO it's self perpetuation to make a profit and to keep us on the hook to buy more hardware and rebuy the software.Cd's were supposed to be the be all to end all.Their initial run was about 15 years before newer types came out.Lp's have been around for what ...50 odd years and records for a century?I think the golden age has passed and were going into the twilight years. While newer units are glitzier they fall short of the quality and sound of the older stuff that is in good shape is too die for IMO. Well enough ranting for now.Anything of quality vintage is way better than most of what comes out today..again IMO.
