RE: Mcintosh MC225 - 7591

Hi, Chas. I use 6GM5 with home made adaptors in my MC-225. 6GM5/7591/7868 are all the same except for basing. Novar/Octal/Noval.
The 225 is so gentle on output tubes the originals in the amp when i got
it test fine. I happened upon a stash of 6GM5 subsequently and so did
the adaptor thing. A brief story. I am converting a little RCA program
amp for use with my Etherwave Theremin. It is SET using 7868. It went in
service aprx 1978 and removed from service aprx 2001. It ran 24/7 all those years. Output tube still tests pretty good. My point: your investment in NOS 7591 will probably last well beyond your lifetime.
Enjoy!
