Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

It will unless...

enough young people are drawn into the hobby. Yes - HiFi took off after WWII and invention of the Long Play 'microgroove' record and the GE cartridge. There was a lot of DIY involved too. Where the WTC used to stand in New York there was 'radio row' with several blocks of radio/parts/tubes vendors. This was a boon to hifi. But HiFi didn't just happen. There were hobby magazines for audio as there were for HAM radio. There were stereo shows that visited major cities. I remember my first in 1959 in Philadelphia at the Ben Franklin Hotel. And who can forget the AR room in Penn Station NYC where one could see and hear gear first hand. I think there was a duplicate in Grand Central. These shows and show rooms took audio and gave millions a chance to experience it. I guess what I'm saying is without support of those entering the hobby it will die - just like the shooting sports are now. Every year the base gets smaller. Hopeful signs are the enthusiasts world wide. It would be interesting to get the opinion of Stereo Sound and MJ in Japan on this matter. One bad sign is there is no non-compressed format Standard other than Red Book Sony/Philips Compact Disc and there should be. Bill, maybe over time as your son develops listening tastes he might change his mind. Most kids today never get the opportunity to listen to a game changing system. That is what needs to happen.
