RE: Re-issue amps

shermanr, hi. Circuit Boards. Original Marantz and McIntosh amps did not use circuit boards. Rather they used turret boards to afix components. This was 100% in keeping with 'laboratory' and mil spec assembly techniques of the day. This alone is a major difference between original and re-issue. Even if you chose (somehow) to do a reissue with the best boards possible (Teflon boards with gold plated traces) you would probably still fall short of the mark. McIntosh's first reissue run of MC-275 was limited. The success of it obviously prompted decision makers to continue down the profit laden reissue path. I prefer the sound of the original Marantz Model 2 amps to the 9 and of the McIntosh amps the MC-225 to any others. I also prefer the sound of the Model 2 to the 225. Happy Listening!
