RE: Trouble shooting Eico HF-81

As Mark has pointed out, the power transformer is probably just fine.

If the 350 ohm resistor is overheating, something downstream is drawing too much current. I'd bet strongly on the filter caps, but a quick measure of voltages at each of the R66/65/64/63/62 may give you a good hint as to where the problem is. Also whatever is drawing current will be hot. R66 is supposed to be dropping 340 --> 330v, so passing only about 28ma.

If you don't have a copy of the SAM's Photofact for the HF81 let me know.

40uf should be fine for C1/C2, although with today's higher line voltages the 400v rating is a bit marginal for my taste.
