Bell & Howell Filmosound versus Pageant

Richard, hi. I believe the Blue projectors you mention are Pageant machines. Bell & Howell were in a brown blimp box to muffle projector noise. The B&H were better engineered featuring cast metal construction of major parts wrinkle paint coated. This made for a rigid foundation that would never warp. Another cast metal type projector of the time was the Ampro. Both the B&H and Ampro required a competant operator. The Pageant led the way with an auto-thread feature so any idiot could use one. At least, that was the idea. With the B&H the operator had to set loops over and under the gate correctly. In my experience the Pageant machines were brutal on film. The projector I found most curious (or goofy if you will) was the Victor Animatograph. Victor (Davenport, Iowa) was purchased by Curtis-Wright Corporation. Threading these things was akin to making a cat's cradle. Ah, memories memories.
