RE: Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives

gravityfeed, hi. Though not a huge fan of Berle Ives (The Foggy Foggy Dew) I have to agree Holly Jolly Christmas is a seasonal gem. This was a simple recording for the stop-motion animated feature Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer - simple in that it was all done in real time in a real space. Of course the great Johnny Marx wrote both songs. There is something about the words the suggests rich characterization which Mr Ives delivers in spades. It even sounds like Berle is having a good time singing it. It always brings a smile. There is another song I used to spin around this time of year called Pennsylvania Turnpike I Love You - not seasonal exactly but with lots of people on the roads it seemed fitting. It's kind of an afterthought to Ted Weems' Highways Are Happy Ways (when they lead back home to you).
