airtime, hi. IBOC - In Band On Channel. This is another technology go 'round where the radio industry, hard hit by constantly eroding listening base, attempts to convince itself that "digital" will reverse the trend. All of this flies in the face of Direct Broadcast Satellite, mp3, file sharing, the Internet, and so on. Remember the AM Stereo imbroglio of the 80's? Boy did it re-energise terrestrial AM radio, not. The future looks dim for the big license holders who paid big bucks for their properties and now see declining revenues as their reward. Take a look at the underperforming broadcasting companies. Nothing like paying a fortune for broadcast licenses only to see the big rock candy mountain morph into unhappy holograms.
