Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Some questions and thoughts

Did you connect between the neutral terminals of the two amps? If not then would you have had an open circuit?

Assuming that there was a complete circuit, wouldn't the amps be operating under conditions of virtually no load? Would their behaviour under normal loads necessarily be the same?

It might be interesting to run the test with a remote speaker connected to each amp, the neutral terminals connected to one another and a pair of high impedance headphones connected across the hot terminals of the speakers.
