Re: Have I gone to the dark side? Can I still post on vintage asylum?

Listening to CDs, or listening to records through my Yamaha C2's phono stage, the Plinius sounds more natural, more detailed and more engaging with more deep bass and even easier to listen to than the C2 / B2 combination. I preferred it with any kind of music I listened to and any speakers I tried it with.

The two Sugden integrateds compared to the Yamaha C2 / B2 combination are smoother but don't have as much bass heft and may be more coloured. Which of the three I prefered depended upon speakers, music, CD or phono, and mood.

Don't conclude from the above comments that I find the Yamaha combo harsh. I am really sensitive to any harshness in an amp and the Plinius, the two Sugdens and the Yamaha combo are all very smooth sounding amps.

These comments are are of course based on my listening preferences comparing 3 amps which have enough years on them that issues with switches, pots, capacitors etc. may be subtly affecting their sound without anything being obviously wrong, at least to me.

I also note that you have a C2x preamp where I have a C2. I have heard good things about the C2x and hope that one day I'll have a chance to try one.

Regards

David
