Re: "headroom" for Current draw on IsoTransformer

My rule of thumb is at least 5 times the maximum current draw.
In your case, 5*500 = 2500 VA ~=2,500 Watts.
I use a 3 KVA AC regenerator to feed my system and there is a slight reduction of bass slam and dynamic range with the regenerator in circuit. I keep using it because IMO the gains in midrange purity and S/N ratio outweigh the slight "choking" effect.
Make sure that you buy a good, reputable brand of isolation transformer (Signal ?), some poorly-made transformers add distortion to the 60 HZ sinewave.
Better still, make a John Risch balanced power box. That will definitively sound better than an isolation transformer.
Good luck
Carlos
