Re: Batteries revisited - SL(x) charger question

Hello again
I have no experience with SLX batteries, however SLAs like to see between 1/10th and 1/20th of their current rating as the charging current. More than 1/10th tends to "boil" the solution.
Start with 1/10 in the beginning of the charge cycle, them 1/20th, which is called trickle mode and can be left on continuously.
If you factor in peace of sleep, you are much better off buying two SLAs and two smart chargers rated for the batteries A/H rating.
Smart chargers revert to trickle mode when they reach a pre-determined charge level and may even turn-off completely if the battery is warming up (a chip inside the charger controls the charging cycle).
Do a google search on SLA smart charger. I believe batteryworld.com carries an inexpensive one.
I believe its is safer to disconnect the central ground point and charge each battery with its own charger at correct polarity, then reconnect for listening. This will require a four pole double throw switch.
Good luck
Carlos
