Series-shunt volume mod

Hi
I have tried several resistors on a series-shunt volume control.
By far the best sounding, most natural configuration IN MY SYSTEM was a 100K Riken Ohm in series with the potentiometer and a 1 meg tantalum resistor in paralell with what's left of the volume control (between wiper and ground).
The 1 meg resistor avoids wiper noises and guarantees a safe path to ground at all times. You can change its value to about 60% of the pot value, to further reduce gain in the Bottlehead preamp.
If you are in this hobby for the music, try Riken Ohm. If you want to hear lots of details, chairs sqeuaking or the third violinist sneezing, use metal film/foil resistors. You have been warned! :^)
Good luck
Carlos
