Better make replacement shelves with marine 7-ply birch plywood or MDF. It makes a huge difference, specially under CD or a turntable.
My CDP sonded much smoother after replacing the shelf.
I found a local kitchen cabinet maker who made beautiful plywood shelves covered with black Melamine (soft plastic lining used in cheap furniture, I do not know the commercial name in the USA).
