Hello Freddy
Neither do I know what is inside an ASL TVC preamp. I did not test it because IMO 12 steps are not enough. It is either too loud or too low.I prefer 24 x 2 db steps for "normal" systems with speakers in the 83 db to 90 db range.
For for the high-efficiency / horn speakers fans I usually order a tapered control, starting at 5 db per step, a few 3 db steps in the mid-rotation region plus a few 2 db steps at the top .
Best wishes
Carlos
