Re: Importance of/proper use of flux remover?

Hello
I will try to answer your questions based on my experinece

1. How important is solder flux removal?

Not very important, it's mostly an esthetic issue. Most solders with rosin core flux leave a pretty much neutral residue, from a chemical/electrical point of view.

2. What's the best way to remove the flux in this instance?

Isopropyl alcohol and Q-tips, IMO

2. If you suggest using the flux remover spray, do I just spray the connections liberally and wait for it to dry? Where does the flux go?

NEVER spray anything on a switch. You may gunk up the silver contacts.
Silver oxide is more conductive than pure silver, the contacts must be exposed to clean air in order to conduct properly.

4. Can the spray flux remover do any harm to the Shallco switch and its many connection points?

YES, definitively.
I suggest that you leave it alone. My spare 10 year old CAL CD player is a "MK II", meaning that it was modified by the factory. There is lots of flux residue all over the board, The CDP works perfectly.
Good luck with your passive preamp.
