I respectfully disagree. Hexfreds DO have a bright sonic signature that I do not hear in Schottky diodes.
Caveat: one must start with transparent electronics and a reasonably smooth sounding source.
There is no point in fitting schottkys to early generation CD players and expect a miracle to happen. Those CDPs sound bright for several reasons: poor clock, steep digital filters, poor layout, cheap electrolytics, tantalum caps, RFI, etc. etc.
