Well, no test equipment can match the complexity of the human brain but the ear is just plain not that sensitive. With test equipment,we can measure all kinds of distortions, phase shifts, and frequency response variations at levels that are inaudible. All audio manufacturers worth talking about use test equipment because the ear is not good enough or reliable enough. They listen too but can never rely only on ears.
