Re: tantalum vs. Black Gates?

Hello again Eric.
Sorry for my mistake, I meant to say that in my experience the most important caps are the interstage or coupling ones.
Second most important are RIAA (phono caps) wher silver mica or polystyrene are some good options.
Third most important are power supply and decoupling caps. PS caps ARE in series with the signal, if you draw the circuit as a loop:
input > gain block (pulls current from PS)> output > all referenced to ground; PS returns to ground and closes the loop.
If your system is revealing, $40 in PS caps will make a lot of difference. However, remember that according to the manufacturer, BG caps need 300 hours to form and stabilize (jelmax paper, download from parts connexion site). If you turn the eqipment off for maore than 48 hours, you must start it all over again.
I only use BG in CDPs and solid state electronics that are never turned off. Good luck
Carlos
