I have used 3M aluminum damping sheets on 3 different CD players, with outstanding results.
I use them on top of ICs and on any resonant surface of the transport mechanism.
On my lattest CD mod, I added 3M copper RFI tape (Parts Express) on top of the aluminum sheets and connected all the copper strips to the central ground point with thin silver/teflon wire. There is no need to solder the wire to the copper tape, just strip the end and sandwich it between the aluminum and copper layers, it will give a good enough contact.
