Well, I am into FET inputcircuits these days even for (Movingcoil)- phonoinput. I have no experience with LM194/394 but do have experience with MAT02.
Builded the circuit in the MAT04 datasheet for moving coil cartridge preamplfier, but later replaced the MAT02 with a cascoded 2SK389. Result much better sounding circuit! .
Matching of 2SK117 is difficult; you need a lot of them and the matching will never be as good as a monolitic pair. Also the thermal coupling is bad. This will result in a unstable offsetvoltage because of small differences in temperature between the two halves of the differential pair...
