To achieve 7 tesla in open air is pretty damn hard, hence I believe the need for cryogenic temperatures, although I am merely guessing.

If you look at specs for the DX series of Lowther drivers they can reach 2.5 to 3 tesla in the voice coil gaps, but that small gap spacing severely limits placement of test apparatus. I own a set and they are a bitch to work with: try changing ferrous screws on those bastards.....Carrying a driver and walking past my old 21 inch CRT monitor, three feet away, turned the entire screen bluish/purple......Forgot to mention try bringing a steel shank tool close by... nearly punctured the cones the first time I mounted them.
