You can't have one without the other (well, maybe at cryogenic temperatures).Degaussing can be accomplished by playing the degaussing track on the Cardas record, or by purchasing the Purist Audio Cd.
The Gryphon device actually plays a 1kHZ toneburst which slowly fades over 45 seconds or so. You could do the same with a function generator with variable output.
