RE: cryo'ed hubbell 5362's on ebay for $19.99 ...

I've never heard of Mr. Polk, but I did some digging and calling. I spoke directly to Charles at Cryogenics International, with whom I do regular business, and he indeed did a small batch of parts for Mr. Polk back in October. He doesn't recall ever treating any other parts at any other time. And it was a very small group of parts.

For the prices listed, I can only think that this group of Hubbell parts were purchased as an odd-lot or close-out. Not only are these being sold with cryogenic treatment (which was legitimate, thank goodness), but sold without shipping cost either. If I did this (or any other parts vendor for that matter), I'd literally be in the minus column by quite a bit. Mailing an outlet (with insurance) costs nearly $4. Losing money on every sale is insane. If he paid a buck a piece, maybe he'll make a few dollars overall, presuming he sells a bunch of these....but this sounds like a loss leader for some other enticement.

If you look closely, some of the boxes themselves are a little "tatty", as the English say, and the labels used to "certify" the cryogenic treatment are self-created, not the official labels available from Cryogenics International. And speaking of this very reputable business entity, their name is misspelled on the add-on label as well. "Cryogentics"?? A very bad typo at the very least. And "polishing" after the treatment? Certainly not on the inner contacts, as the outlets cannot be taken apart....they're riveted at the factory.

Caveat Emptor to all....one takes one's chances.
