It is primarily a safety issue. Although the receptacle is grounded through contact of the mounting strap with the metal receptacle box, if the receptacle mounting screws should work loose, you may lose the ground. By installing a wire pigtail from the ground terminal of the receptacle to the back of the metal box, you will avoid this potential problem.Some receptacles have a self-grounding tab on one of the two mounting strap ears (see pic) that will maintain the ground connection between receptacle and box even if the mounting screws somehow work loose over time. The Oyaides do not have these self-grounding tabs as far as I can see.
