IME phono stages are very sensitive to hum and airborne radio frequency. The hook-up wires connecting the battery to each tube may pick up noise, therefore it seems to be a good idea to use more capacitance and local bypass caps, one for each tube or gain stage.
The bypass caps will shunt the noise to ground.

Local means that the cap's (+) terminal is soldered directly to the tube socket pin, the (-) tab is soldered to the nearest signal ground.
In a three tube phono stage you may want to start with 5 uF for each tube.
Warning: several gain stages connected to a single power supply may lead to "motorboating". If you hear a noise that resembles a fishing boat engine from your phono stage, use one battery+cap for each tube.
