Scoffing

So far, 4 posters have scoffed at freezing. Not one of those has indicated having tried it. At AA, it is not unusual for a person to post and say something such as they A/B'd a Bryston and a Plinius amp and preferred the Bryston. This type of statement will draw no derision. Yet two people on this thread, including myself, have said they have A/B'd frozen gear (I have frozen other items, not just cd's); that draws unkind scoffing.

It is not the mocking that concerns me - stick and stones, etc. What amazes me is that people who apparently have not tried something indicate a difference can't be heard. What is the point? That Elwinstar and I are not as bright as the scoffers? That we are hopeless innocents who are easily duped? That the mockers are superior because they stand on the sidelines rather than taking a more scientific approach and trying something before passing judgement? One might not want to try experimenting with freezing and simply refrain from comment. That is a far cry from the position of jeering and not trying it because one's mind is made up before hand that it just won't work. Before attempting it, my position on freezing was one of healthy skepticism. That's not a reasonable approach? Isn't that what a good audiophile does when auditioning any new equipment? Perhaps Fleming was in a similar frame of mind when observing bread mold.

Neither Elwinstar nor I have offered any "aluminum hat" theories as to why freezing works, simply that we can hear a difference in sound. We have stated observations based on experience. Is that to be mocked? Legitimate companies offer cryogenic options. Elwinstar and I have noted that in our experience the effects need not be limited to expensive, commercial processes. Does lack of a business license invalidate our ability to hear?

What I gather from the exchanges so far is that we are to value opinions based on lack of any real-world experience more than our own efforts at investigation, and to feel ashamed at being such morons for doing so.

Once again, gentlemen, I throw down the aural gauntlet: Have you tried freezing audio gear, and if so, what are your experiences?
