Alan Kimmel (the designer of the Welborne ST70 mod) put bandwidth limiting into his circuit too. You may very well be right that the AVA choices are a bit severe, however, the ideas of stopping core saturation and slew limiting are sound. BTW, increasing the coupling caps to 1 micro Farad is the 1st (very important) step in reducing the amount of error correction signal in the negative feedback loop at low frequencies. The Welborne, AVA, and Triode Electronics upgrades to the ST70 appear valid to me, after examining the schematics. The Curcio upgrade rates to be another option. I have not seen the Curcio schematic, therefore, I leave the comments to other individuals.
The ST70 is a good candidate for upgrade. I am not suggesting that the amp will be anything other than very good after the job is done. I just don't think that it ends up in the "Dream Machine" class.
