As far as I know, the 5AR4 is the specified tube for the ST70, Mark3 and Mark4. The only Dynaco that used a 5u4 was the Mark2. The 5AR4 has less voltage drop so using it in a 5u4 design like a Mark2 can stress things like the output tubes and filter capacitors. But in a ST70, the 5AR4 is the right tube. A 5u4 will work but the amp won't develope full power and probably lacks some punch.
